If companies don’t invest in climate action, they won't be around in 5–10 years. Full stop.
In today's rapidly changing world, taking climate action as a business isn't just an option, it's a lifeline.
I want to share four straight-forward reasons why investing in climate action now is a smart business decision AND how designers can show up:
1. Get on the train or be left at the station
The next decade will decisively make or break a business. Companies that don't adapt to climate realities will become obsolete. Design studios are uniquely positioned to lead this transformation by reimagining products, spaces, and systems with sustainability at their core.
2. People are voting with their wallets
Today's customers don't just want sustainable products—they demand them. Millennials and Gen Z actually care about where they spend their money, choosing brands that actually commit to unf*cking the planet. Design can be the bridge that translates ecological responsibility into compelling, desirable experiences that people love.
3. It just makes business sense
Climate challenges are massive design opportunities. From circular economy solutions to regenerative approaches, design studios can help businesses turn environmental constraints into breakthrough innovations. Designers have the amazing ability to prototype, visualize, and prototype sustainable solutions.
4. Climate change isn't a future threat—it's a current business risk
Supply chain disruptions, extreme weather events, and regulatory changes are already impacting bottom lines. Proactive climate investment isn't a cost; it's no-nonsense risk management that protects a business's long-term viability.
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again, you can't do business on a dead planet.
But, we can and must reimagine how businesses (and the design industry) show up in healing and re-nourishing our damaged world.
